Day Ten - I worked on Monday 4/14/08 from 9:40 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. That's a total of 4 hours and 50 minutes for today.
Total Hours: 83 Hours.
AWESOME!!!! I am finally done with my hours and looks like I did 3 extra hours. Today was a restful day. I spent most of my time in the office taking phone calls and filing application forms for next year's registration. I didn't do anything hard. Everything was simple. The only thing I did that was sort of tiring was putting applications in alphabetical order. All in all, it was great a experience. I learned that in order to move up, you need to do the dirty work first. Although, it wasn't quite dirty as I thought it'd be. I feel much more positive about working and it really showed me how to take responsibility into my own hands. The things I'll miss were not having to go to school and study, but to work instead. I will probably go and visit them later if I have time. Only, I highly doubt it. Another stress off my back!

Day Nine - I worked on Monday 4/07/08 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. That's a total of seven hours for today.
Total Hours: 78 Hours and 10 Minutes.
Today I worked in the main office the whole time. I started out by just answering phone calls. Then, I had to translate something from english to spanish. I spent my whole time period working on that piece of assignment. In the afternoon, I went to go buy two-hundred stamps for the secretary and bookkeeper. Then I went on my lunch break. Around two o'clock, I was asked to move some carpets from a truck into the convent where the sisters of the school live. Before leaving for the day, I asked three of the people I work with if they would like to join me for the dinner that the school is having. One said no for sure. The other two said maybe. That was pretty much all I did throughout the day. It was short but a lot more restful than other days.

WoooHooo Two More Weeks!
Day Eight - I worked on Monday 3/31/08 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. I worked a total of seven hours for today.
Total Hours: 71 hours and 10 minutes.
Today I went straight into the office. It was really crazy because they were remodeling it and there was a huge mess everywhere. They had taken out all the desks and put in newer, bigger ones. They are still not completely done but since everything is thrown on the floor, we were trying to work and fix things at the same time. Plus, since it was a 12:30 dismissal, teachers had an inservice and so the principal ordered food from a restaurant. We had to organize everything together so that the teachers could enjoy the lunch. Afterwards, I had to clean up everything and bring the food to the faculty room to store away the leftovers. Overall, it was a stressful and tiring day. But, I am learning that in order to succeed, you need to do the "dirty job" first and then do the real hard work. As for the project, I will probably present it next Monday and if not, it will on April 14th.

Day Seven - I worked on Monday 3/17/08 from 9:00am to 4:00pm. I worked a total of seven hours for today.
Total Hours: 64 hours and 10 minutes.
Today I worked in the eye testing "center". We, me and Tina, did both seventh grade classes and both eighth grade classes. We are finally done testing the whole school to see that they are able to see right. There were, though, some kids who were absent so we will have to do those when we come back from break on March 31, 2008. It took about five hours to complete; from 9am to 2:45pm. It took long to do four classes because they are a lot bigger. it was a good experience and that's why I want to do this for the project I will have to present at the end of this WLE.
St. Peter's School is a school that you know is respectful from the minute you walk into it. The students playing in the yard, the teachers on yard duty, and the office people busy on their work is what makes up all the good things about the school. They all have fun at the school. It's not even like a school. It looks like a fun house. But that's only outside of the work. The inside is filled with a lot of learning and students striving for their best. Well, at least the little ones seem more excited than the big ones because the big ones have been there for a long time already. There is nothing about the school that seems frustrating or tedious or anything of that matter. Everything seems well-organized and the work is performed well too. Through my WLE, the school has improved in trusting each other. Each day there is more and more students asking for a bandaid or some ice because they got hurt. The staff is always there for the students and from the look of it, it doesn't seem like there's anything wrong with the school.

Day Six - I worked on Monday 3/09/08 from 9:20am to 4:00pm. I worked a total of 6 hours and 40 minutes.
Total Hours: 57 hours and 10 minutes
Today I worked in the eye testing with Tina. We got through 4 classes. We started with the fourth grade and ended with the sixth grade. It was really tiring because I am really sick. I have a bad cold and I can't stop blowing my nose and sneezing. They were almost going to send me home but I decided to stay because it would then take a longer time to finish the eye testing. It was good, though, because we got pretty far.
I haven't really spoken to anyone about their careers or how they got to where they're at right now. My mentor told me about her career, though, before I started working there. She told me that she didn't want to be a principal and that she was aiming to be only a teacher. But, after a long time of teaching she started moving up into more responsible jobs. She then, one day, realized that she was a principal and she liked it. She said that in order to work in a school, you have to have a lot of patience with students and also care for them. She also said that it gets really hard and tiring but if you like it, you will never regret it. This is the only thing I know about my mentors' careers.

Day Five - I worked on Monday 3/04/08 from 9:50am to 4:00pm. That is a total of 6 hours and 10 minutes.
Total Hours: 50 hours and 30 minutes.
Today I worked in the eye testing as I explained in other posts. We got through 4 classes and we still need 9 classes. Throughout the day, I spent most of my time there. The only time I was really helping out in the office was for the last half an hour before school ended. It was a stressful day today.
For my final project, I plan to use this Eye Test as a final thought of what I did and learned at my workplace learning experience. I've yet to discuss this project with my mentor but I plan to do it by the next time I see her. I really think this project will work out and I will stick with it. It will be a good example of what I've done throughout the weeks since I am spending a long time on this.

Day Four - I worked on Monday 2/25/08 from 8:00 to 1:00. This is a total of 5 hours for the fourth week.
Total Hours: 44 hours & 20 minutes.
Today I worked in the office and with the support personnel. In the office, I was only there for like half an hour . I only got to answer the phone like twice and for the rest of the time there, I helped the secretary with whatever she needed. When I was helping the support personnel, Tina, we were doing eye testing on children. What this is is we test the kids at the their eyes just to see that they can see. We have a chart for them just like a chart that they have in a hospital when they check if you need any glasses. That's exactly what we've been doing. We still haven't finished so we will continue this next week.
During this eye testing, Sujata came and visited me for a while. It was actually pretty fun. I showed her around the school and the people I work with in school. I even showed her some of my old teachers from when I was in that school. Then I brought her up to the office where me and Tina were checking the student's eyes. By the look on her face, it looked like she enjoyed coming to visit. Overall, today was actually one of the good days where I had fun at my WLE.

Day Three - Since my job didn't have school on 2/18/08, I worked from 2/19-2/22 on our break. I worked a total of 25 hours and 20 minutes.
Total Hours: 39 hours & 20 minutes.
During these four days I did several jobs that were assigned by either my mentor or the secretary or even the support personnel. These are the three people I work with on a regular basis. Most of the time, it's really easy jobs like getting food for them during lunch or taking mail to the post office. Other times it gets more complicated like filing a lot of papers or working with students.
When I work with children, it's more like taking care of them while their teachers are on their breaks. Sometimes I even help them with classwork. But, most of the time, it's just running the office. I answer the phone, give information out about the school to visitors, and clean up my office space. As for the projec, I still haven't put much thought into it. I do, however, want to like do something about attendance rates from there compared to the attendance rates in our school. I'm not sure if this is a project that I will actually do, though.

Day Two - I worked Monday, 2/11/08, from 8:30am to 3:30pm; a total of 7 hours.
Total Hours: 14 hours.
Today I worked in the office, the same place I worked in last week. I finished up putting the emergency cards in order and cleaning up around the office. Most of the time, the office space at work at is pretty quiet. There is no noise except for when someone comes in to use the phone or to make copies of something in the printer. My workplace is really like chill and laid back. The secretary and principal work hard but have a good time at the same time. They talk to each other and they enjoy being there. This makes me feel more comfortable knowing that they work and have fun.
Normally, people in the office wear casual dress like long skirts or sweaters and nice shirts because they are all woman. I work on the secretary's desk because most of the time she's doing papers on the computer.
This week I worked on cutting lunch slips for the lunch lady. I moved a big cabinet from the assistant secretary's office to one of the eigth grade classes. I was in charge of doing yard duty which is to take care of the kids in their recess. The kids were from grades k-2. I picked up lunch for the secretary. I also answered phone calls, filed papers and stapled some important information papers and put it into the teachers' mailboxes. Overall, it was real stressful. I'm still not doing what I hope to do latr on which is to work on the project that I need to do. But, at least, it's not like last week where I did all the cleaning. It went good.

Day One - I worked Monday, 2/4/08, from 9am to 4pm.
Total Hours: 7 hours.
I really felt confident walking into my WLE. I am now working at my old elementary and middle school called St. Peter's School. I started working at 9am and ended at 4pm. I will usually begin at eight but this first day, I was running a bit late and that was not a good first impression to make. It shows that from the first day I'm already being irresponsible. Luckily, the principal, who is also my mentor, was cool about it so I got a second chance. Anyway, I started my day by cleaning. I dusted two presentation shelves that they had in the office. They had pictures and artifacts from the 1800's so I had to be very careful when cleaning it. The doors were also made of glass so I had to clean them very slowly with windex so they wouldn't break. Then I moved on to cleaning two printers that were super dirty and no one else wanted to get near them so I gave them a shot. I then moved into the main office where I had to print out some papers for the secretary. I filed papers, put emergency cards in alphabetical order, helped out the principal organize books from the school from the 1900's, and helped out the day care move sleeping mats to the kindergarten class for nap time. But once I went to day care to help them out, they said that they didn't need to move any mats and that I could go back to the office.
Overall, it was a stressful but fun experience for the first day. I learned how to be responsible and still manage my time while doing the jobs that they asked me to do. I actually did expect to do something like this for the first day and then go up step by step into more complex job activities. It was hard and tiring but it was a good experience because from this first day, I could already see how difficult things are going to get.
