WLE

Day Four - I worked on Monday 2/25/08 from 8:00 to 1:00. This is a total of 5 hours for the fourth week.

Total Hours: 44 hours & 20 minutes.

Today I worked in the office and with the support personnel. In the office, I was only there for like half an hour . I only got to answer the phone like twice and for the rest of the time there, I helped the secretary with whatever she needed. When I was helping the support personnel, Tina, we were doing eye testing on children. What this is is we test the kids at the their eyes just to see that they can see. We have a chart for them just like a chart that they have in a hospital when they check if you need any glasses. That's exactly what we've been doing. We still haven't finished so we will continue this next week.

During this eye testing, Sujata came and visited me for a while. It was actually pretty fun. I showed her around the school and the people I work with in school. I even showed her some of my old teachers from when I was in that school. Then I brought her up to the office where me and Tina were checking the student's eyes. By the look on her face, it looked like she enjoyed coming to visit. Overall, today was actually one of the good days where I had fun at my WLE.

Day Three - Since my job didn't have school on 2/18/08, I worked from 2/19-2/22 on our break. I worked a total of 25 hours and 20 minutes.

Total Hours: 39 hours & 20 minutes.

During these four days I did several jobs that were assigned by either my mentor or the secretary or even the support personnel. These are the three people I work with on a regular basis. Most of the time, it's really easy jobs like getting food for them during lunch or taking mail to the post office. Other times it gets more complicated like filing a lot of papers or working with students.

When I work with children, it's more like taking care of them while their teachers are on their breaks. Sometimes I even help them with classwork. But, most of the time, it's just running the office. I answer the phone, give information out about the school to visitors, and clean up my office space. As for the projec, I still haven't put much thought into it. I do, however, want to like do something about attendance rates from there compared to the attendance rates in our school. I'm not sure if this is a project that I will actually do, though.

WLE

Day Two - I worked Monday, 2/11/08, from 8:30am to 3:30pm; a total of 7 hours.

Total Hours: 14 hours.

Today I worked in the office, the same place I worked in last week. I finished up putting the emergency cards in order and cleaning up around the office. Most of the time, the office space at work at is pretty quiet. There is no noise except for when someone comes in to use the phone or to make copies of something in the printer. My workplace is really like chill and laid back. The secretary and principal work hard but have a good time at the same time. They talk to each other and they enjoy being there. This makes me feel more comfortable knowing that they work and have fun.

Normally, people in the office wear casual dress like long skirts or sweaters and nice shirts because they are all woman. I work on the secretary's desk because most of the time she's doing papers on the computer.

This week I worked on cutting lunch slips for the lunch lady. I moved a big cabinet from the assistant secretary's office to one of the eigth grade classes. I was in charge of doing yard duty which is to take care of the kids in their recess. The kids were from grades k-2. I picked up lunch for the secretary. I also answered phone calls, filed papers and stapled some important information papers and put it into the teachers' mailboxes. Overall, it was real stressful. I'm still not doing what I hope to do latr on which is to work on the project that I need to do. But, at least, it's not like last week where I did all the cleaning. It went good.

WLE

Day One - I worked Monday, 2/4/08, from 9am to 4pm.

Total Hours: 7 hours.

I really felt confident walking into my WLE. I am now working at my old elementary and middle school called St. Peter's School. I started working at 9am and ended at 4pm. I will usually begin at eight but this first day, I was running a bit late and that was not a good first impression to make. It shows that from the first day I'm already being irresponsible. Luckily, the principal, who is also my mentor, was cool about it so I got a second chance. Anyway, I started my day by cleaning. I dusted two presentation shelves that they had in the office. They had pictures and artifacts from the 1800's so I had to be very careful when cleaning it. The doors were also made of glass so I had to clean them very slowly with windex so they wouldn't break. Then I moved on to cleaning two printers that were super dirty and no one else wanted to get near them so I gave them a shot. I then moved into the main office where I had to print out some papers for the secretary. I filed papers, put emergency cards in alphabetical order, helped out the principal organize books from the school from the 1900's, and helped out the day care move sleeping mats to the kindergarten class for nap time. But once I went to day care to help them out, they said that they didn't need to move any mats and that I could go back to the office.

Overall, it was a stressful but fun experience for the first day. I learned how to be responsible and still manage my time while doing the jobs that they asked me to do. I actually did expect to do something like this for the first day and then go up step by step into more complex job activities. It was hard and tiring but it was a good experience because from this first day, I could already see how difficult things are going to get.
